This year has brought a shift for me in the way I wish to practice medicine. I have embraced my true calling as a Medicine Woman by incorporating different aspects into my work of caring for those who are needing to heal. I wish to facilitate this healing not only through herbs and nutrition, but also through yoga, stillness, silence, connecting with people in the wilderness, opening a community herbal dispensary and facilitating supportive group experiences. These groups, initially for women only, I am calling ‘Circle of Women’.
The Inaugural Circle – The Metamorphism of Menopause
Sunday November 27th 2016, 1-4pm, Fairfield House, Nelson
Our first Circle calls on wahine who are in their menopausal years to join me for a rich explorative afternoon of women’s wisdom. This is about women teaching and supporting each other by sharing insight of their common experiences.
The word Metamorphism comes from the Greek: meta = change, morph = form, so metamorphism means to change form. In geology this refers to the changes in mineral assemblage and texture that result from subjecting a rock to conditions such as pressures, temperatures, and chemical environments different from those under which the rock originally formed. Well it seems to me that pretty much the same thing happens to women in the middle of their lives!
For many women it really is a huge shift – physically as well as in the mind and heart, and as a result a new creature may well emerge – akin to a gorgeous butterfly. But the actual process of the change is complex, so in the Circle we will explore this complexity to bring strength and wellness. Symptoms of menopause include irregular periods, hot flushes and night sweats, sleep problems, mood changes including suicidal thoughts, weight gain and slowed metabolism, thinning hair, dry skin, joint pain, cognitive challenges, incontinence, anxiety…
Suggested koha $30. Places are limited.
